Background

One of the most important aspects in life is to become a solid individual. An equally important aspect is to have meaningful relationships.

These two needs describe the most powerful human drivers:

The urge to control our own lives (autonomy), and our desire for relating with others (attachment).

A significant part of my research how to balance these two needs. Most of the time we tend to have too much of one, and not enough of the other.

Committed relationships often trigger panic. Some people feel like they can't be their true self, and their sense of self is starting to disappear until they don't know who they are any more.

Others are constantly worried about abandonment, or safety and security, and pressure their partner for commitment and unconditional love.

According to one of the most well known psychologists, David Schnarch, and his work in the field of romantic and intimate relationships, there are 4 Points of Balance outlined below.

The 4 Points of Balance in this Workshop

We will go through physical exercises that help you to embody the 4 Points of Balance.

Some moments will be physically intense and some will be quiet and still.

There will be single, couple, and group exercises which will help you interact on a deeper level. Together, we will create space to discover your feelings and needs, for example to find out how much proximity or distance you need in life.

We begin by Grounded Responding, connecting to our bodies

⦿ Acknowledge the senses: sight, smell, taste, touch, hear

⦿ Cultivate calm breathing patterns

⦿ Connect with energy fields around you

Next we will focus on developing a Solid Flexible Self

⦿ Cultivate strength in the body

⦿ Cultivate flexibility in the body

⦿ Practice these traits around other people in the workshop

⦿ Reflect on how these qualities can integrate into everyday life in a realistic way

We also do exercises focused on cultivating a Quiet Mind & Calm Heart

⦿ Exercising trust and intuition

⦿ Focusing on the body as an instrument of intuition rather than intellect

⦿ Partner work & Group work

Last but not least, we explore the most challenging point, Meaningful Duration

⦿ Exercises designed to get you out of your comfort zone

In this workshop, you will learn how to embody the 4 Points of Balance outlined below.

1. Solid Flexible Self™

In Balance

⦿ An internalized set of core values by which you run your life

⦿ A strong sense of self-worth that perseveres through challenging times

⦿ Draw your sense of personal stability, values, and direction from within

⦿ You don't always have to be right and you don't crash when you're wrong

Out of Balance

⦿ Emotionally unstable or overly dependent in committed relationships

⦿ Rigid, brittle, controlling, and manipulate their relationships to fit their own needs and wants

⦿ Increasingly dependent and emotionally fused with their partner; depend on getting a positive reflected sense of self from other people

2. Quiet Mind & Calm Heart™

In Balance

⦿ A quiet mind

⦿ A calm heart
